The Badminton Horse Trials Rely on TrellisWorks Wireless Connectivity.
28/04/2008
The wireless network installed by TrellisWorks is vital to the successful running of the Trials, as it allows all areas, where there is a need to be on-line, to communicate with the main network. At this year’s event there is a main Base Station located at the new site for The Mitsubishi Motors Press Centre and Network HQ. There are seven wireless links to remote or outlying areas where computers are present. These include such areas as: The Main Arena, The Results Tent, BBC Outside Broadcasting, Radio5Live, The Main Display Screen, Radio Badminton and various Mitsubishi Motors’ locations.
The Badminton Mitsubishi Motors Equestrian Horse Trials is the second largest outdoor sporting event in the world. It’s attended by hundreds of thousands of visitors and watched around the world by millions. The successful running demands accurate and immediate availability of information. The wireless network provided by TrellisWorks Limited is used both for the results and rider information, but also as a service for the large number of press from around the world and who attend the event. With the event so widespread and with PCs and laptops based around the entire site, this poses quite a problem for the organizers. Indeed, setting up the entire event, from a communications and computer network point of view, requires completion in a very short space of time. This is especially relevant as many of the locations and temporary facilities only arrive one or two days before the event starts. A key part of this is Mitsubishi’s use of an IEEE802.11a 54Mbps outdoor radio system to link the PCs and laptops located around this large event area.
